In 1991 Dave Alexander began decommissioning abandoned mines. As the buildings started coming down, he put re-usable equipment up for sale.

Then Dave began bringing his two sons out to the sites to help out and learn. By the time his son Mark was finished university, he was managing projects. In 2002, Mark and his brother Matt decided to launch Mine Source Auctions to focus exclusively on marketing used and surplus mining equipment.
